This got me thinking about the power of appreciation in our family lives and the way we praise and encourage our children. If you spend most of your time being positive yet finish your sentences with but you negate all the positive things youve already said to your kids and they will only remember the words after your but.
It's safe to say that children would rather be doing just about anything other than sitting down in school struggling through maths problems or sitting at home going through maths homework. What you have to do is grab their attention and try your best to make their attention stick. Unfortunately mathematics for kids is an integral part of all education programs throughout the world so there is no escaping it.
With maths for kids age 4, 'numbers' are always introduced early. Children learn everything to do with numbers by counting attractive objects and then examining results in a group. A really good way to do this is to introduce a simple board game to proceedings like 'Snakes and ladders'. With this type of board game children count the spaces they move after every roll of the dice.
